Research shows there is not “one way” to resolve problems related to alcohol or drug use. Our objective is to help each person and their family find the path that works best for them to achieve their goals – this, we believe is “True North.”

A NEW APPROACH

True North Solutions has been designed to provide evidence based treatment options in an outpatient setting. We believe that effective treatment begins with partnering with each person and their family to develop the care that will truly offer the opportunity for change to occur. True North recognizes that with the right types of assistance, change can occur in an outpatient setting so that the person can continue supportive activities, including job and family.

GETTING STARTED

It begins with assessment: Because each individual has a different set or constellation of goals and needs, we begin with a professional assessment. True North prides itself on providing services that are tailored to the needs of the individual and his or her situation.

Services are always presented in a professional and caring manner with a primary goal of enhancing dignity. Treatment planning is done by a multi-disciplinary team trained in the treatment of both addictive disorders and mental health issues. Our team includes psychiatrists, physicians, nurses, therapists, counselors as well as the client and their family.

MEDICATION ASSISTANCE

Much like other diseases, addiction is a biological disease that responds to medications that both arrest the disease as well as manage the ongoing symptoms. Care at True North includes an assessment to determine whether or not medication assisted treatment can help to facilitate change and ongoing recovery for the person who has developed a physical dependence on alcohol or opiates (including prescription medications). Medications can be a critical component for many substance abusing individuals as they need assistance regulating the brain chemistry that keeps them in the cycle of addiction. The National Institutes of Health have conducted research studies on these FDA approved medications and they are highly recommended by the US Department of Health and Human Services and the National Quality Forum.

There are also many times that an individual has co-occurring mental health issues such as anxiety or depression. Our professional staff can address these issues through medication and counseling to allow the individual to minimize these symptoms and focus on a new life.

SERVICES FOR FAMILIES

Family involvement has been shown to increase the likelihood that an individual will begin treatment, decrease dropout rates during treatment, and improve long term outcomes.

If you’re struggling with convincing your loved one to get help, call 309-589-8900. True North Solutions professional staff can begin working with you to engage your loved one in seeking assistance.

The C.R.A.F.T. (Community Reinforcement Approach and Family Training) intervention is a scientifically-based model that teaches concerned significant others – family members and caring friends – how to engage substance users to seek treatment by using positive reinforcement rather than coercion. The program emphasizes learning new skills to cope with old problems and helps concerned significant others improve the quality of their own lives even if their loved one does not enter treatment. On average 7 out of 10 people who use the program find that their loved one decides to participate in treatment. This approach is effective for spouses or significant others and parents of substance abusing children.
